On 13 February at 19:47 UTC the Catalan sailor Didac Costa crossed the finish line of his second Vendée Globe, earning 20th place after 97 days 6 hours 27 minutes at sea. A solo round the world that represented both a personal challenge and an instrument to raise awareness for ocean protection.
The Spanish fireman's boat, One Planet One Ocean, is named after the Unesco Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission’s campaign that focuses on environmental research. The boat in equipped with a photovoltaic system designed by the Italian company Solbian: 780 Wp of solar panels which have provided the energy to power the onboard electronics. An important advantage, as described by the sailor himself, since it allowed him to charge the most essential equipment without carrying the weight of extra fuel for the engine. An environmentally friendly energy source that matches perfectly Didac Costa’s sustainability message.
