Profile description

We are a leading company in the field of solar energy applied to mobility, with an ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability. Currently, we are looking for an intern to join our R&D team, focused on the development of new topologies for the electrical connection of PV panel strings for automotive applications, (refrigerated trucks, etc..) where special attention is required to the mamagement of partial shading (see cross-tied topology) and the reduction of the total length of the cables used.

Responsibilities

Literature study: conduct a thorough review of scientific and technical literature related to electrical connection types of photovoltaic panels, with a specific focus on automotive applications.
Modeling and simulation: use modeling tools to develop predictive models of proposed new topologies, evaluating their effectiveness under partial shading conditions and analyzing overall performance.
Design: contribute to the design process of new connection topologies, taking into account the specific requirements of automotive applications, such as refrigerated trucks.
Prototyping: collaborate with the engineering team to create prototypes based on the new electrical connection topologies.
Testing and evaluation: conduct experimental tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the new topologies, collecting data and analyzing the results to provide feedback to the development team.

Requirements

• Master student in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or related discipline.
• Basic knowledge of photovoltaic technologies and automotive applications.

Electrical Engineer

MPPT for Automotive Applications

Born out of a collaboration between a renowned sailor and an experienced physicist, our mission is to push the boundaries of photovoltaic technology in challenging, on-the-go environments, with an increasing focus on automotive applications.

The Position
We are looking for an experienced and innovative Electrical/Electronic Engineer to join our R&D team. The ideal candidate will lead the development of next generation Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) electronics specifically designed for automotive applications through European (GIANTS) and national (RSE) projects.
Responsibilities

Optimization of current MPPTs: in-depth analysis and performance improvement of existing MPPT systems, with a focus on efficiency under various operating conditions typical of the automotive environment (temperature variations, partial shading, vibration).
Testing and validation: designing and conducting rigorous testing to evaluate the performance of MPPT systems under various conditions. This will include bench testing, laboratory simulations and road tests to ensure robustness and reliability in real driving scenarios.
Design of photovoltaic systems with storage for boats: development of integrated energy generation and storage solutions specifically optimized for marine applications. This will include design of storage systems, optimization of integration between solar panels and batteries, and development of energy management systems suitable for marine environments with their specific challenges (salinity, humidity, vibration).
Integration and compatibility: working closely with panel development teams to ensure seamless integration of systems.
Advanced algorithm development: Creation and implementation of next-generation MPPT algorithms, optimized for the specific needs of the automotive industry, with focus on speed of response and adaptability to changing conditions.
Data analysis and reporting: collection, analysis and interpretation of performance data to drive the continuous improvement process. Preparation of detailed technical reports and presentations for R&D team and automotive partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related field
• Experience in MPPT system development, preferably in automotive or renewable energy contexts
• Experience in designing power circuits and electronic control systems for high efficiency applications
• Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations related to electrical and electronic systems • Advanced skills in microcontroller programming and firmware development
• Experience with electronic design software,simulation and data analysis
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate complex ideas
• Fluent in Italian and English; other languages are a plus

Responsibilities

• Implementation and maintenance of corporate network infrastructure.
• Development of information security procedures

Responsibilities

Materials research: conducting studies to select the most suitable materials for the polymeric front-sheet, considering requirements of flexibility, light weight and environmental resistance for automotive and marine applications.
Design and prototyping: participating in the design process of the double curvature photovoltaic panel, including the polymeric front-sheet. Contribute to prototyping using advanced materials and innovative manufacturing technologies.
Testing and evaluation: conduct experimental tests to evaluate the strength, efficiency and performance of the prototype under representative conditions of use in both automotive and marine environments.
Continuous optimization: work with the engineering team to optimize materials and processes based on test results to maximize the overall performance of the photovoltaic panel.
