The Energy Flyer is a portable solar USB charger engineered for reliable power in remote and off-grid environments. Designed for expedition use, field work and outdoor travel, it delivers stable USB charging directly from sunlight without the need for an external battery.
Lightweight, compact and mechanically reinforced, it provides dependable energy wherever conventional power sources are unavailable.
The solar panel
At the core of the Energy Flyer are four high-efficiency SunPower Maxeon back-contact cells encapsulated within a rugged polymeric structure engineered to resist impact, vibration and extreme weathering.
With a total output exceeding 12W, the panel maintains performance under low-irradiance and diffuse light conditions, extending usable charging time beyond peak sun hours.
A reinforced perimeter frame protects the panel edges, while four integrated corner eyelets enable secure attachment to backpacks, tents or temporary structures. This makes the Energy Flyer an ideal solar charger for backpack mounting during trekking, expeditions and mobile work deployments.
Built as a true expedition solar charger, it is designed to operate reliably in demanding outdoor environments.
The electronics
The Energy Flyer is unique in its category as a solar USB charger with integrated MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology.
Unlike standard USB solar chargers that operate assuming a fixed panel voltage, the embedded MPPT algorithm continuously tracks the panel’s maximum power point. This maximises usable output under variable light conditions and improves charging stability throughout the day.
The system delivers a regulated 5V supply via a standard USB port. The charger operates directly from solar input; no intermediate battery is required. An LED indicator glows green when sufficient irradiance is available and switches to red when a device is connected and charging is in progress.
Power conversion & protection
DC-DC boost conversion
An integrated DC-DC boost converter optimises power generation across a wide range of temperatures and solar radiation intensities, ensuring consistent output performance.
Embedded MPPT logic
Maximum energy harvest is achieved through continuous MPPT processing, dynamically adapting to changing environmental conditions.
Safety systems
The integrated charge controller provides overvoltage and overcurrent protection. If excessive voltage or temperature is detected, the system automatically interrupts operation to protect both the device and connected electronics.
