Solbian’s solar panel is based on advanced photovoltaic technology using monocrystalline silicon solar cells, known for their high efficiency and long-term durability. Instead of traditional protective glass, each unit is manufactured by encapsulating the photovoltaic cells between multiple polymer layers. Though the crystalline cells are extremely thin (less than 0.2 mm), they are protected by a carefully engineered combination of polymer layers and surface treatments, which transforms them into flexible and robust panels. The result is a thin, adaptable module that integrates easily onto curved or irregularly shaped surfaces without compromising energy output.

The science behind solar

A photovoltaic module, or solar panel, converts sunlight into electricity using solar cells, typically made of silicon, the most abundant element in the Earth’s crust. Each crystalline silicon cell generates approximately 0.6 volts and a current that depends on the intensity of light. To reach a usable voltage, solar cells are connected in series. For example, a 32-cell module offers about 19 V of output, while its power under full sunlight can reach 200W, depending on the size and efficiency of the cells. Since sunlight varies throughout the day, energy is best stored in batteries for stable use. In off-grid systems, a complete setup includes the panel, a battery, and a charge controller to manage energy flow and ensure reliable, continuous power. Together, they provide the essential foundation for achieving energy independence through solar panel technology.

Our solar panels are innovative because they use a patented, glass-free encapsulation method that transforms fragile crystalline silicon cells into flexible, lightweight, and durable modules. Solbian was the first to achieve IEC certifications (61215 and 61730) for this type of panel using crystalline silicon in a polymeric-only environment, a milestone reached in 2011.

While the cells come from top-tier suppliers, the unique protective polymer layering is the result of years of in-house development. Beyond modules, Solbian advances the full ecosystem of solar panel technology by developing high-performance electronic components, including custom charge controllers and innovative solutions for mechanical mounting and electrical connections.
