Victor Mooney prepares to row across the Atlantic

2014/02/20

Victor Mooney, a resident of New York City, is going to cross the Atlantic Ocean on his rowboat, Spirit of Malabo, as a way of raising money and awareness to combat HIV and AIDS.

Mooney lost one of his brothers to this deadly illness and has another living with HIV. He decided to do something to apprise as well as encourage voluntary testing and increase prevention. As soon as conditions are favorable, he will set off from the Canary Islands on a 5,000-mile journey home and if he succeeds, he would be the first African American to row solo from Africa to the Americas.

One SP100 Solbian flexible solar panel is mounted on the Spirit of Malabo to power the on board equipment.
