Giovanni Soldini wins the Cape2Rio and beats the speed record

2014/01/15

On January 14th at 23:29 UTC the Cape2Rio yacht race has come to an end for Giovanni Soldini and the Maserati team.

10 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, 57 seconds, a time that ensured to beat the race speed record by wide margin, the previous one had been in fact established in 2000 by the 74’ American maxi Zephyrus IV which completed the race in 12 days, 16 hours and 49 minutes. From January 4th, the path that led the VOR 70 from Cape Town to Rio has not been the easiest one, breakdowns and bad weather, especially during the first phase, have affected the race, but the Maserati team kept hold of the first place from the beginning, maintaining its position and moving swiftly towards the goal. 3300 miles that delivered to Soldini and his crew an important new record, tied to an historical regatta such as the Cape2Rio, which is now in its fourteenth edition.

The VOR 70 is equipped with 500 Wp of Solbian flexible solar panels that provide nearly 60% of the energy needed onboard.
