Matteo Miceli is an Italian sailor who has many crossings to his name and is now preparing for a new challenge; Solbian solar panels will accompany him in this adventure and will have an important role throughout the crossing.
During the episode of November 7th of the Italian tv show Geo, Miceli had the opportunity to tell the public about his next adventure. In 2014, for his project Roma Ocean World, he will face a solo crossing around the world dedicated to the theme of eco-sustainability. The sailor will depart from the Italian capital with his 12 meters boat “Est-Eco” that will guarantee him to be self-sufficient in a totally eco-friendly way, sending a clear message in favor of sustainable energy. The Italian navigator will have a vegetable garden on board and even two chickens, a small wind turbine and Solbian solar panels of course, which will provide the energy needed to go on safely and easily. Miceli will communicate with the outside world via a satellite phone which in the most complex situations will allow him to stay up to date on the weather conditions. The journey is not going to be easy, from Rome he will reach the Strait of Bonifacio, he will get to the Straits of Gibraltar and descend to South Africa, he will then pass Australia reaching then the most difficult phase, Cape Horn. Finally he will go back to Rome through the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Horn will be the most demanding moment, with its strong wind and the bitter cold, but Matteo Miceli is preparing both physically and psychologically, even though he has already faced very complex challenges in the past such as crossing the Atlantic aboard a catamaran of only 6 meters. With this adventure, the Roman sailor will be able to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new technologies in the field of alternative energy and sustainability.
